Frozen Pipe Prevention

Pipes in a plumbing system start to freeze when the temperature outside the home drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Before the onset of cold weather, we ask that you protect your pipes from freezing, below are some tips that may help:

- By running water through the pipe - even at a trickle - helps prevent pipes from freezing.

- Prior to freezing temperatures remove all outside hoses and be sure all faucets are drained and shut off.

- Never use antifreeze as prevention to keep pipes from freezing. The chemicals could be drawn back into water supply and contaminate the system.

- Know the location of your master water shut off valve in case of emergency - Note: Please DO NOT shut off water at the meter, contact

City Hall at 208-679-8158 to have water department turn meter off.
