City of Heyburn Council Meeting
January 28, 2009
7:00 P.M.
Council Present:
Cleo Gallegos, Rocky Baker, Leann Smith. Mayor Anderson and Dee Ray Bailey excused.
Employees Present:
Linda Dayley and Steve Tuft.
Visitors Present: Rose Schmitt, Dan Bristol, Stan Zielinski, Joanne Justesen, Laurie Welch and Scott Ganoe.
Meeting conducted by Councilwoman Cleo Gallegos.
Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilwoman Cleo Gallegos.
Approve Minutes of the Council Meeting on January 14, 2009.
Motion by Leann Smith to approve the minutes for the Council Meeting on January 14, 2009. Second by Rocky Baker. Vote: Cleo Gallegos - Aye; Rocky Baker - Aye; Leann Smith - Aye.
Approve Paying the Bills.
Motion by Rocky Baker to approve paying the bills. Second by Leann Smith. Vote: Cleo Gallegos - Aye; Rocky Baker - Aye; Leann Smith - Aye.
Discuss/Approve Usage of the Riverside Park for the Viking Man - Scott Ganoe.
Scott Ganoe gave a presentation on the Third Annual Viking Man Triathlon. Scott thanked the Council and the City of Heyburn for their assistance. It will be the Skandi Dag’s 7th year, which will take place at the same time. The event will be covered by National Race Insurance which the city will be provided a copy. The Viking Man organization is asking assistance from the Council for the following items.
*Use of the Riverside Park the evening of the June 4th and all day June 5th and 6th, 2009.
*One RV space for one week.
*One RV space for two days.
*One extra garbage dumpster.
A responsible party will have to fill out the reservation form and be responsible for the clean up of the facility.
Motion by Rocky Baker to approve the usage of the Riverside Park, two RV spaces (1 for a week and 1 for two days), and one extra dumpster for the Third Annual Viking Man Triathlon and to waive the fee. Second by Leann Smith. Vote: Cleo Gallegos - Aye; Rocky Baker - Aye; Leann Smith - Aye.
Discuss Future of Heyburn Elementary School - Dr. Scott Rogers.
Attorney Steve Tuft discussed with the Council a letter received from Mike Tribe, the attorney for the Minidoka School District inquiring about the City’s desire to receive the old elementary school building and the art collection. Steve suggested to the Council that Mayor Anderson, Superintendent Scott Spevak and himself meet with the school board and bring the findings back to the Council for further discussion. The council was in agreement and Steve Tuft will set up the meeting.
Councilwoman Cleo Gallegos acknowledged the new Chief of Police Dan Bristol.
Attorney Steve Tuft encouraged the Council to read the new Minidoka County Vicious Dog Ordinance that was in their packets.
Meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
